Looking toward these young companies for the source of their inspiration and investment focus could be a direction to turn before "leaving town". They have surveyed the landscape, executed business plans and and found a niche in today's marketplace. Retooling, relearning and partnering with this segment is worth considering.

Comment on Are you investing in your business or other equities?

Thanks for the question.
I am not able to answer your question, however, appreciate the earnings analysis you provided.

Comment on Are you Positioning Your Business to Succeed In The New Economy?

I like your question on how we can better position ourselves for the economic recovery, and my answer is "Go to Australia" as an American "export". Why not look globally as more American companies are doing, and finding out how our skills can be of value? I would like to be able to offer support to a global company -- they may have their top performers and subject matter experts wondering how to prepare for their expanding marketplace. As the business environments recover, we should see more companies looking internationally for their expertise.
Helping Magnify Your Performance (R)
Bonnie Mattick

Comment on Are you Positioning Your Business to Succeed In The New Economy?

Does Jan Hatzius speak from a consensus of bullish optimism or is he on the edge of the possibilities frontier? If he is indeed among a growing number of forecasters predicting an upturn, then, what commodities, wholesale products or services does Dr Hatzius suggest will grow businesses? Where is the growing demand for goods and services that will turn businesses to focus ahead? Perhaps, the next posting will shed some light down the path of economic increase.

Comment on Reorganize Now!

Yes, the times "they are a changing". We have significantly boosted our capability in workforce development.

In the Summer of 2008 we revised our strategic plan (which we do every 3 years). In one particular division, we looked at the needs of our customers vis a vis our mission statement and found grants, and funding to support the customers initial emergence or retraining to reenter the work environment. The division director conducted meaningful demographic research about the geographic market and set goals about how best and efficiently meet the current and future needs of these customers. We continue to reset the tactical portion of the goals as the economy changes. And we recruit talent with expertise in the areas which best serve the customer.

Comment on Reorganize Now!

I see companies being more conscious of efficient processes they use in their business. Whether it's manufacturing or service-oriented business, small changes to the work process can save dollars and make the work easier for the existing employees. I recommend that companies reward creative ways employees can save money and "think outside the box". Now is the time for them to put on their "imagination hats"!
That's being very Tactical!!
Bonnie

Comment on What Leading Indicators Do You Use?

This is a good question, and I am finding that companies I am dealing with look at their industry statistics before determining all their options in making a decision. If they are aligning their business decisions with their goals and strategies and reviewing what's happening within their industry, they are more likely to make an accurate decision. More and more companies are looking deeper into the issues surrounding a decision due to the economic situation.

Comment on What Leading Indicators Do You Use?

Senior managers meet for monthly budget reviews to discuss variances.
